May 2003 Progressive Dinner
August 2003 Cycle to West Hawk

Aug 31, 2003 Norm, Fraser, Bob and I (Roy) participated in our third
annual Tour de MidCan.
The century ride (100 miles) took us from South St. Vital, out St Mary's Road, Marion and
finally to Dugald Road - aka Hwy 15. After passing through Dugald, Glass, Anola, Vivian,
Nourse, and Ste. Rita we made our first stop at Elma (picture#1) for breakfast. We
continued onto Hwy 44 and a second stop at Rennie where 3 litres of chocolate milk were
consumed. After stopping for despirately needed bicycle repairs (picture #2) we
arrived at the Landing at West Hawk Lake at 2:30 pm (picture#3). A total of 5.5 hours of
cycling time. This was our fasted Tour yet, thanks to our intense training, and our
intense thirst for a cold one at the Landing. The brisk tail wind was felt to play only a
minor factor in the record time recorded.
Our planning was impeccable until the end when our ride back to Winnipeg arrived before we
finished our first beer.
The highlight on the way home was our stop at the McMunn Motor Inn in McMunn Manitoba
where we each enjoyed one of Nelda's Giant cinnamon buns. Bob described Nelda's buns as
"warm, moist and sticky".
