MIDCAN MASTERS BOARD MINUTES
Tuesday, April 16, 2002
Present: Marilyn Armstrong, Dianne Boulay, Leah Barnlund, Kathleen Reid, Francie
Palmer, Rod Clifton, Rod Marcyniuk
Meeting was called to order at 7:40pm.
Progressive Dinner:
Problem getting houses to hold dinner at. Francie will check with Wenda,
Jeff & Chris about using their place. If Francie can’t get anyone soon, will cancel event. Kathleen will check River Heights Community Center to see if we can get for the evening & just have everyone sit around & talk for the evening.
Life Guard:
Francie read letter she sent to Amanda Lozinski regarding life guard situation. We feel since we are paying for a life guard, we should have one dedicated to our end of the pool only. We have been promised that. Francie would like everyone to watch life guard and make any notes as to whether or not guard is doing what he/she should be doing.
Swimming Matters:
Kathleen brought in 2 different types of flippers if anyone interested in buying from Swimming Matters. There is a discount if 12 or more are purchased. Also brought in some different hand pads.
Bob Hammerton Trophy:
Jack Spence recommended trophy be given this year to Bob Groff for all his hard work and commitment to swimming over the years. Jack & Francie will write up report about Bob. Trophy to be given out at Provincials April 27. Francie will call Leslie Clark. Jack’s name was also suggested for consideration.
Masters Swim Manitoba:
Leah reported they have hired Dennis Pickerel for $500 to work on Provincial Swim Meet. Banquet will be at Granite Curling Club April 27. Only thing Midcan is responsible for is timers. Leah’s term as secretary is ending & also Jack’s term as president. Leah is looking for another person from Midcan to go to meetings so Midcan not stuck doing everything.
Rod M. reported that about 2 weeks ago a 2 times a week swimmer tried to go 3 times in one week but once he was explained proper procedures he understood. Rod would like everyone to explain to swimmers in their lane that if you pay for 2 swims a week you can’t bank swims. Rod suggested other options for following years might be pay as you go which would be more money than Midcan usually charges but less than Frank Kennedy would charge. Rod would collect money on side lines. Francie would need volunteers to collect money if Rod not available.
Meeting Adjourned: 8:30 pm.
Next meeting: Thursday, May 9th.
