Introduction

 

  Mid-Can Masters Swim Club is a group of people who have organized so that they can make swimming part of their regular exercise program. Anyone, regardless of swimming ability, who wants to make swimming part of their regular exercise program, is welcome to join the club.

 

  The club offers the following:

-         Pal Temesvari, one of the best swim coaches in Manitoba

-         Opportunity to enter swim meets during the course of the year

-         Social activities outside of swimming

 

 

 Location & Practice Times     

 

    The club swims out of the Joyce Fromsom pool located in the Frank Kennedy building at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry Campus.

 

 The practice times are:

 -  Tuesday & Thursday night:  8:30 p.m. to 9:55 p.m.

 - Saturday morning: 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 

   Fees

 

    As an incentive to try out the club, the first three practices are free.

   Coaching

 

  Pal Temesvari, who is also the Manitoba Marlins head swim coach, is a fully certified NCCP III coach and is the only Manitoba swim coach enrolled in the National Coaches Institute’s NCCP level 4 – 5.   Pal has been part of the Canadian Swim Coaching team at the following international events:

  

-         2000 Summer Olympics

-         1999 Pan Am Games

-         1996 Summer Olympics

-         1994 Commonwealth Games

 

 

 

Pal personally designs the workouts so that there are variations with respect to distances as well as stokes used. He is happy to help members to improve their swimming techniques during practice.

 

 

Swim Meets

 

  Club members have the opportunity to enter swim meets during course of the year. These meets offer members the chance to test their swimming abilities in a friendly non-competitive atmosphere.

 

  The lists of swim meets are:

    Pantheon

    Provincials

    Nationals

 

 

Social Activities

 

  The club holds certain social activities during the course of the year.

 

  A tradition is the annual Progressive Supper held in May of each year. Informal weekly activities include breakfast after Saturday morning practice and beers and nachos after Thursday night practice.

 

On Sundays during the spring & summer, some club members will get together to go cycling. During the winter, some club members will get together to go cross- country skiing on Sundays.
