MIDCAN MASTERS BOARD MINUTES
Tuesday, June 18, 2002
Present: Marilyn Armstrong, Dianne Boulay, Kathleen Reid, Francie Palmer, Rod Clifton, Rod Marcyniuk, Frixos Paraskevas
Absent: Leah Barnlund
Meeting was called to order at 7:30pm.
Letter from the President:
Dianne brought a letter that she had received from the President of the University of Manitoba. Dianne had attended a luncheon put on by the President where she had an opportunity to raise some of the issues that Mid Can has raised with the University. The letter will be filed - if anyone wishes a copy please let me know.
Treasurer’s Report:
Rod had prepared an income statement. Rod figures that we will make a $500.00 profit this year. Pool shutdown this year will be from August 22 to approximately September 15th, 2002.
As of August our bank balance will be $3,700.00
GIC - $5,200.00
Discussed many different possibilities for fee increases. Discussed a 7%, 10%, 15% and 20% increase. Our expenses for the next year will be:
Pool rental - $42.50 to the end of March 2003 then $44.00 for a total of $10,390.00
Coaching - $30.00 a practice - 50 weeks = $4,500.00 + $100.00 Christmas bonus = $4,600.00
CSA dues - 50 members = $1,006.00
40 members = $806.00
Examples:
50 members 40 members
Current fees - loss of $2,800.00 loss of $5,400.00
7% increase - loss of $1,850.00 loss of $4,600.00
10% increase - loss of $1,250.00 loss of $4,200.00
15% increase - loss of $550.00 loss of $3,650.00
20% increase - profit of $3,800.00 loss of $3,050.00
This is assuming we break even on the Pop Sidwell (we made $900.00 - $1,000.00 last year). Discussed the fact that we should be using the GIC money as some of our current swimmers were contributors to that money.
Discussed possibility of having a wine tasting social in January/February.
Dianne made a motion to increase the fees by 7% beginning September, 2002. Marilyn seconded. Motion passed with the agreement of a mandatory social event.
Miscellaneous:
In Leah’s absence Dianne reported that we will need at least one more member on the Swim Manitoba committee.
Discussed possibility of having the Pop Sidwell in Steinbach. We could start it a lot earlier so people can be home sooner. It would be a big advantage to those swimmers coming from Kenora. The U of M is not able (or willing) to give us the pool any sooner and we are continually going overtime.
Meeting Adjourned: 8:30 pm.
Next meeting: Thursday, September 12th, , possibly at Francie’s.
